Be my virus pen pal?
Greetings from across “social distance,”
Normally I save up a few pieces before I send out an update. But after just a couple days of virus-conscious behavior (i.e. working from home) I’m feeling a little starved for contact.
And so: last weekend I wrote this short piece for the New York Times Magazine about the for-profit insurance, hospital, and pharmaceutical industries pooling $ to buy deceptive ads designed to convince people that substantial health care reform is unworkable.
You may have seen these ads if you watched any of the recent Democratic debates live on TV. Even if you haven’t seen them, you know their talking points, in large part because they are all but identical to the preferred health care talking points of Joseph Biden, currently running for the nomination on the idea that it’s not feasible for the richest country in the history of the world to insure all of its citizens.
Everyone be well out there, —Peter
